La Tradizione del Nuovo

The Archive contributes to the new edition of the Triennale Milano’s Museum of Italian Design

On the occasion of the 23rd International Exhibition Unknown Unknowns. An Introduction to Mysteries in Triennale Milano from 15th July to 11th December 2022 the Archivio Storico Ricordi contributes to the correlated exhibition La Tradizione del Nuovo of the Museo del Design Italiano with the loan of six original works from its collection.

With the 23rd Edition, Triennale Milano continues its tradition almost centenary to ask to the public a question about what we not jet “we don’t know we don’t know” in different fields, from the evolution of the city to the oceans, from the genetic to the astrophysics. An experience which involves designers, architects, artists, playwrights and musicians.
The Triennale Milano’s Museum of Italian Design, directed by Marco Sammicheli, offers an exhibition project to recount how Italian design has always had a courageous approach dedicated to exploration, and has tackled what is not yet known as a mean of research. The show, entitled La tradizione del nuovo, brings together works, installations, documents, creative processes and experimental pieces that have contributed to the development of society, touching on sociological, commercial, ecological, technological and cultural aspects between 1964 and 1996.
The set-up offers visitors some of the most significant examples of research coming from Italian designers, and invites to explore them further with separate exhibition areas that follow a development through time (Gravity, Human Containers, Environments, ‘80s Movements, ‘90s Playground, Synesthesia and Music) and creatives who have fostered unexpected events, doubts, answers, and technical progress.

Among those, the composers of original scores loaned from the Archive to Triennale Milano: Luigi Nono (Prometeo), Salvatore Sciarrino (III Sonata), Marco Stroppa (Traiettoria…deviata), Sylvano Bussotti (Raragramma), Adriano Guarnieri (Nafshi), and the philosopher Massimo Cacciari (the autograph libretto of Prometeo).

The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication curated by the philosopher Emanuele Coccia, composed by an iconography apparatus and writings about the topic and the exhibits.
